I always felt out of my element when working digitally, but no drawing has kicked my ass like this one. I struggled with anatomy, textures, colors, composition, layer management, and discipline. When I sit back and look at it, all I can see are the imperfections.
Even so, I consider it done and that makes me extremely happy. It feels good to finish something despite myself.
On a side note... I was originally doing this in color. Here's how far I got with that version: [link]
The problem with that is I never imagined this in color. In my mind, it was something from an old black and white movie. Even worse, I couldn't come to terms with how to make details pop out with such a dense jungle background. So I recolored it (uncolored?) and took some details out of the foliage.
I learned a lot working on this, and it was only towards the very end (when I got used to making textures) that I regretted my choice to go monochrome. The feeling I get when I finally click the submit button will be worth all the effort.
